Seismic Zone Construction Safety Upgraded By EPS Cement Sandwich Wall Panel

For construction projects located in active seismic zones, reducing the dead load of the building is the most important principle to improve seismic safety. Traditional heavy solid walls will generate huge inertial force during an earthquake, which often leads to serious structural collapse and casualty. EPS Cement Sandwich Wall Panel completely changes this situation with its ultra-lightweight and high-strength design, greatly upgrading the overall safety level of buildings in earthquake-prone areas.

The weight of EPS Cement Sandwich Wall Panel is only 60kg per square meter, which is 80% lighter than traditional 200mm thick concrete solid wall. This huge weight reduction directly cuts down the inertial force generated by the wall during an earthquake by more than 70%. Even if a strong earthquake occurs, the wall will not produce huge destructive impact on the main steel or concrete frame, and it will not break into heavy falling debris that causes injury to people.

In the latest full-scale seismic simulation test on a 3-story residential building, the test structure using EPS Cement Sandwich Wall Panel successfully withstood a 9-magnitude earthquake simulation test. After the earthquake, all the wall panels still stayed firmly connected with the main frame, no large cracks appeared, and the whole structure kept intact. The same test structure using traditional brick walls completely collapsed when the seismic intensity reached 7 degrees.

Many post-earthquake reconstruction projects have chosen this wall panel as the main wall material in recent years. These reconstruction projects not only meet the highest local seismic design standards, but also complete the house reconstruction work in less than half of the traditional construction time. Local residents have moved into new safe houses much earlier than expected, and the new houses also provide much better thermal insulation and living comfort than the old ones that were destroyed in the earthquake.
